India's wealth to double in 5 years; may grow to $6.4tn: Report

According to the Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report published for the first time, the total wealth of India has trebled in a decade to $3.5 trillion. By 2015, the country's wealth could nearly double to $6.4 trillion.

Guys whats your vies on it. Also as per the report India's wealthy people will be able to double their assets by 2015.

But my point is what will happen to poor of the country? Will they be a part of this Wealth Run? Or will they be just the mute spectators of Rich gets Richer and Poor gets Poorer?

The corruption is looming large and it will not be any wonder that due to this plague the wealthy becomes wealthier. Also the famous saying is that money begets money. So when poor doesn't have the money then how will they beget the same.

The second issue which I feel is how sustainable this growth story be?

Can we leave behind the people in BPL(Below Poverty Line)?

Do you know whats the BPL limit in India? If yes then post it.

  1. Fixing BPL in India is the prerogative of the Planning Commission, which it does using various measures & parameters, yet different states are free to formulate their own criteria. BPL for rural populace as fixed in the 10th 5-yr plan is based on 13 parameters and scores in each of them is combined (eg. land holding, type of house, food security, clothing, sanitation etc.) Income based BPL limits Rs. 356 per month per head as the lower limit for rural India and Rs. 560 for urban India. Internationally $US 1.25 in PPP terms is considered as the lower limit.

  2. All said and none done. By setting all these limits, which are more towards unrealistic figures, whom are we trying to fool actually. To them who are already suffering from the disparity in wealth distribution, or to ourselves who are sensitive to these issues but get convinced easily by these political tactics to subside our senses. Till the time we, the youth and future of the times will not understand the criticality of these issues and take some collective actions to remove this disparity, nothing is going to change.
How many of us can survive in cities like Delhi or Mumbai even for 1 week in meager 560 bucks (assuming no corrupt officer or politician takes a cut even out of this small amount). Lets ask this question to ourselves repetitively, just to keep this issue burning in our minds, till we can create means of continuous earnings for at least 50 so called BPL people. Lets pledge to our first CSR initiative right now and right here.
